Big Larches

Anyone know what Larch trees are? They actually are American Larch and grow aprox. 5-10 m tall. The pale green needles turn golden in the fall before they drop off. People flock to the mountains in the fall for a superb display of fall tamarack color. The only catch is that Larch trees are found above 1800 meters in the Canadian Rockies. That means hiking to higher elevations, allthough a drive through the Highwood Pass (Canada's highest drivable pass at 7800 feet above sea level) in Kananaskis Country ( Archives NOV/05 Kananaskis Country ) southwest of Calgary, has nice stands of Larch trees. I shot this photo on the Big Larches trail in the Lake O'Hara region of Yoho National Park. That is my wife Rolly patiently waiting while I compose and shoot the photo. I will post a photo taken in the fall soon.
