Birds Of Fall

I find one of the most enjoyable sounds that tells me that fall has arrived in southern Alberta, is the honking of Canada geese in the early morning skies, as they lift off of sloughs and go in search of their breakfast. They feed mainly in fields of grain such as this, on swaths that have not yet been harvested. Before to long as the weather begins to turn nasty, they will form up in their V-flying patterns and begin their migratory flights to all points south in the US and as far south as northern Mexico.
Of course we humans provide many excellent year-round habitats, resulting in non-migrating Canada geese that cause all sorts of problems due to the fact they have lost all their wildness.
