We Are Many
As the days get longer, it gives me a chance to get down to the Bird Sanctuary, to check out the waterfowl. No one knows why these ducks spend the winter in Calgary, but it has been going on for many years. The lagoon within the Sanctuary is kept open by warm underground springs, however it takes the assistance of constantly moving hoards of ducks to keep the area ice free. The ducks in this photo are Mallards, with a mixture of Canada Geese thrown into the mix along with singles of other species (snow goose).
