Outside Bend

At one time this river bed carried the Kananaskis River. As you walk up the old river bed, everythng you see reminds you of this once proud river: the smooth walls scoured by churning rocks, the undercutting produced by the full force of the current swirling around a outside bend. But that was then, this is now. The small amount of flowing water is mere seepage from Pocterra Dam on the lower Kananaskis Lake. I shot this photo as I made my way through the canyon below the dam. The main river is now carried in a huge ugly pipe that is a eye sore on the landscape. Such is progress.
